Aguascalientes, a land characterized by the amazing spirits, its traditional candy and the beautiful view of the San Marcos Garden, brings together its roots and the most modern artistic expressions. The best pop, rock and grupera music artists share the stage with dance shows, crafts exhibitions and many other events.
The festival, organized in honor of the San Marcos neighborhood Saint, takes place the last two weeks of April and the first two of May. The festival’s main sites are the San Marcos Garden, the San Marcos Temple, the Bullring, the Municipal Theater, and San Marcos Island, a space created for family fun.
The visitors to this great party can enjoy endless activities throughout 23 days. One of them is the traditional bullfight show, which takes place at the Bullring with internationally renowned matadors.
Likewise, the Municipal Theater hosts important rock, pop and grupera music artists. There are also music presentations at the cockfighting arena by Mexican bands. This year, visitors will be able to enjoy concerts by Lila Downs, Tania Libertad, El Tri, among others.
There are fun activities for all ages and tastes: casinos, cockfights, horse racing, dance and music shows, sporting events and carnival rides, to mention just a few.
Every year, the San Marcos Festival welcomes two honor guests, one country and one Mexican state, which offer a glimpse of their culture through exhibitions, stands and a variety of activities. This year, the guest country is Japan, and the Mexican state is Tamaulipas.
The nightlife during the festival is very hectic, and there is a good variety of options: nightclubs, bars, restaurants and cantinas stay open until late at night.
Furthermore, there are lodging options to fit all budgets; however, it is recommended to reserve a room well in advance since hotels tend to sell-out during the festival.
