In the area surrounding the beautiful city of Taxco, you'll find the Alejandro Humboldt National Park, an expansive green area ideal for camping, hiking, admiring various plant and animal species, or just enjoying a quiet and peaceful environment. With over 1000 hectares of pine and live oak forests, this ecological reserve is a paradise for those looking for ecotourism activities, exciting outdoor activities such as horseback riding and zip lines, or just to admire the majestic scenery.

An important natural lung for the region, this park provides one of the most popular delicacies of the region: jumiles – small, edible insects with a marked cinnamon flavor. At local restaurants, jumiles are prepared with hot sauce or served with guacamole and fresh handmade tortillas. As well as thick vegetation, lakes, rivers and waterfalls, this region is home to numerous wild species including deer, eagles, iguanas, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, armadillos and sparrowhawks. It is not uncommon to find any of these animals, so always have your camera at the ready!

In the heart of the park, you'll find the Cacalotenango Waterfall, a spectacular fall measuring 260 feet in height and stemming from the Plan de Campos creek. Likewise, a nearby hill offers you a natural viewpoint and breathtaking views over the surrounding area.
