In Aguascalientes’ environs you can do outdoor recreational activities in areas with excellent weather, gorgeous scenery and ideal terrain.

 

Tunel de PotrerilloLocated 64 km (40 mi) from the city of Aguascalientes, in the town of Rincon Romos. At this spot you can hike through part of the Huejucar Canyon, which is lined with attractive rock formations. This is one of the widest parts of the canyon, allowing you to enjoy camping outings, trekking and horseback riding.

 

Cerro de la ArdillaLocated 62 km (38 mi) northwest of Aguascalientes along Highway 70. This hill is 3050 meters (10,065 feet) above sea level, making it the highest point in the state. At this place you can go horseback riding or take a guided tour along interpretive trails.

 

Monolito la MuelaLocated 12 km (7 mi) west of Aguascalientes, off Highway 70, at the foothills of the Cerro del Picacho and the Cerro del Muerto. This area offers ideal conditions for rock climbing and rappelling. The steeps are about 20 meters (66 feet) high and are of diverse difficulty grades.

 

Cañon de HuijolotesTo arrive at the canyon, take the Aguascalientes-Calvillo Highway 70 to the Villa Hidalgo turnoff, then follow the road that runs past the town of El Ocote and continues on to Tapias Viejas. This place has numerous rock formations that offer ideal conditions for rappelling and climbing.

 

Complejo Ecologico El Chilarillo This recreational, ecological and cultural complex is located in southern Aguascalientes, 26 km (16 mi) from the airport. Here you can rent cabins to relax and enjoy nature. It also offers guided tours that seek to raise your awareness by providing educational information concerning wildlife conservation.

 

Ejido Ecoturistico El OcoteLies 22 km (14 mi) southwest of Aguascalientes, off the Villa Hidalgo Highway. Near this community lies the Tolimique hill and dam, where you can go horseback riding, rock climbing and rappelling, as it has steeps and nearly vertical rock formations.
