Touring Cumbres de Monterrey National Park. The first
stop on this tour is the Cerro de la Silla. To
arrive there, take Av. Chapultepec to the Colonia La Pastora, then cross the Rio La Silla
and head east. About 600 meters
(1,980 feet) ahead
you?ll find a turnoff to the
right that leads to the
Cerro de la Silla. This magnificent
saddle-shaped hill is 1575 meters
(5,197 feet) high.
There you can go hiking, observe the landscape and
do photo safaris. The next stop is Cascada Cola de
Caballo, which is about 40 km (25 mi) from
the city. To get there,
take Highway 85 southeast to the
town of Santiago. When you reach
Km 39 take the turnoff to
the right, which has signs that will lead
you to this
spectacular 25-meter (82-foot)
waterfall. Near there you?ll find
a hotel where you can do a
70-meter (231-foot) bungee jump, the ideal recreational activity for those who
like extreme sports. The last stop on
the route is Cañon de Matacanes (Matacanes Canyon), which you can reach by taking Highway 85 to a dirt road
turnoff that passes by several ranches. Here you can discover
marvelous natural attractions,
including waterfalls, ravines, crystalline springs and caves. This is a true
paradise for those who enjoy
canyoneering.
